Anything else?
I write in praise of the lovely treatment I received during my short stay as a patient on Ward 10 Orthopaedic and trauma. I had a hip replacement on Nov. 6th. The entire staff from pre-op nurses and doctors to the team which carried out the op were superb, as was the recovery team. The anaesthetist applying the epidural was outstanding as were the theatre crew who put me at ease and behaved professionally throughout. The porters were efficient and friendly. Special praise must go to all the staff on Ward 10.The atmosphere on the ward was calm, professional, friendly and efficient. The tea ladies and lunch providers offered a welcoming smile and the food was quite flavoursome. The Nursing staff was professional and friendly listening to all problems and reacting immediately throughout the day and the night. Nothing was too much trouble- even making hot drinks for patients in the middle of the night during their round. The whole feeling I got from my stay was that everyone who talked to me knew who I was, where I was in my treatment, what I`d been through and what was needed to improve my condition. Junior doctors constantly checked on my condition both mentally and physically, and even trainees did their bit under guidance from seniors. The OT team did a great job, seamlessly improving mobility with no fuss, and items needed for rehabilitation were produced immediately giving a real sense that patient wellbeing was being considered holistically, and in a superbly efficient way. My only concern throughout was the amount of paperwork generated by my short visit. Everyone apart from theatre staff added to my file at every opportunity .It upset me at the time that this multi-layered bureaucratic nightmare was being enacted on my behalf, but with hindsight I realise that maybe without all these checks and balances my treatment would not have been so speedy or have such a positive outcome. In addition to the in-house treatment, post-op care has been carefully and professionally considered. Altogether the experience has been fantastically positive but one which hopefully I will not have to repeat, but would do so safe in the knowledge that my treatment would be so good. I will be telling everybody about my stay. Thank you.
