"Minor Injuries Unit closure"

About: Faversham Cottage Hospital

Anything else?

I have used the facilities of the Minor Injuries unit three times. Once I had a badly cut finger, another time I had an injured ankle and head. The third time proved to be a medical problem. On each occasion I received prompt, efficient and helpful attention with excellent follow-up advice. I have no transport of my own and live alone. If I had to travel to Canterbury or Whitstable I would have to rely on public transport. Travelling on a bus or train with an injury does not bear thinking about and, of course, there is the possibility that the injuries do not happen to fit in with transport timetables. As to visiting the health centre, that would not be possible out of hours and, again, accidents do not always occur at convenient times. Apart from my own problems with the closure, there are those who have to take their young children with them or who are too frail to manage the long journeys hurt and alone. And, of course, there is the cost of transport for those on limited incomes. Closing such a valuable service is almost criminal and I hope everything possible will be done to allow the MIU to continue its work.
