I took my daughter to Harlow a&e Friday morning after she had a fall, she was in pain and could not use her arm or leg, I was worried she may have broke her ankle or leg as she could not put any weight on it. upon arriving the lady at the reception desk was very nice and helpful. The first nurse that we saw was very nice and helpful too, she took us through to a cubical and i explained what had happened and other health problems that my daughter suffers from. The nurse took my daughters b.p and checked her out, She agreed that my daughters pain was an 8 on the pain scale and gave my daughter some pain relief then we was given an x-ray form and sent round to the x-ray department. At the x-ray department the staff were also very good, Once they had done the x-rays we were sent back to a&e to await the results. After awhile of waiting in the waiting area at the children's a&e department, the nurse that had been dealing with us came back out pulling a b.p machine where she tried to take my daughters b.p, and also said "I am really sorry but given your daughter's history the nurses feel very uncomfortable in treating your daughter. I asked what happens next then? and was told we would have to wait for a doctor that would treat my daughter and wait for a cubical to be free. My daughter does has other health problems (Hydrocephalus) and cornea clouding, but the reason that my daughter was in a&e was due to a suspected broken leg or ankle. A year ago my daughter was taken into a&e with a suspected blocked shunt, she should have been transferred to G.O.S.H immediately but this never happened at first we were sent back home with her after being told it was viral. We took her back the same day and after a lot of waiting and being left we finally got admitted to dolphin ward. Where again we should have been taken to G.O.S.H and again this never happened. My daughter was kept on dolphin ward for nine days and put on a drip, due to this she suffered a stroke in one of her eyes muscles due to a build up of pressure in her head. the nurses on dolphin ward were lovely and tried to helped but the consultants and doctors failed my daughter in every way possible. They would not listen to us every time we told them it was her shunt. I wish to know my the a&e nurses felt so uncomfortable in treating my daughter for a suspected broken bone? but for a blocked shunt she was admitted and kept for nine day's. I was deeply disappointed in the reaction of the nurses in a&e last Friday, after all this is a child that needed medical attention, I did not know it was allowed to pick and chose who to help.
