I was admitted for day surgery under a doctor who was a wonderful consultant. He explained everything to me in a way that was easy to understand, and he helped with any concerns I had. The nurse that took care of me was so kind and helpful. Even though the ward I was due to be admitted to was full, the borrowed beds on the endoscopy ward were fine, clean and the unit operated really well. I explained to all staff concerned that I suffer with social agoraphobia and that I was finding the ward really difficult. They made sure that my curtains were kept closed at all times and left me alone as I told them this is what I preferred. Not once did I feel that my privacy or dignity was compromised and was treated with patience and respect at all times. Any examinations were brief but complete. And all pre and post care was thoughtful, practical and completed to a high standard. Most NHS nurses in my opinion, are wonderful people doing a very difficult job, they work long hours and must be shattered by the end of what is a very long day. Due to my father being diabetic and suffering with MS and kidney failure, I have met lots of nurses at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. They have all without exception been highly trained, do their jobs 100% and most importantly are wonderful with their patients. I am so thankful for the NHS and even more so to the Staff at the RSH for taking care of me and my dad.
