What I liked
Amazing team of people from the Consultant's Team through to the dedicated, professional, courteous and constantly supportive, cheerful and friendly nursing team (including the student nurses) and the lovely woman who brought round the tea and coffee. I had serious post-operative infections with awful effects which the attentive staff managed with calm concern, thoughtfulness and dedication. They ensured my own personal dignity even in the most difficult of circumstances and kept my sometimes flagging spirits up. They were all very diligent in finding ways to alleviate the very unpleasant symptoms and ultimately were, through perseverance and round the clock care successful in sending me home in reasonably good health to continue my recovery. I cannot thank or praise them enough.
What could be improved
Well.... the post-operative infections had to come from somewhere...
The food was absolutely AWFUL.... and the lack of toast for breakfast (I mean that's ridiculous really - I heard it was because the smoke from burnt toast set off fire alarms and called out the Fire Brigade which cost the Trust money...surely they could simply buy a decent toaster from the massive profit they must make form the car parking charges). There were many patients (myself included) whose relatives had to bring in food simply because the meals provided by the hospital kitchens/caterers were so dreadful - congealed and flavourless, evidently not from decent raw ingredients, definitely NOT designed to stimulate delicate appetites or encourage healthy eating. Is it true that hospitals are allocated only enough money to spend 39p per patient per day on the food they provide ? If it is it's shameful.
