"Top quality surgery and post-op care"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

I was diagnosed with a large brain tumour in September 2011 however it was evident that it had been there for several years beforehand and I was given the choice of surgery or regular follow-up MRIs to track any changes. Fast forward 2 years and my latest scan had revealed movement and growth in the tumour. Again I was given the choice by my neurosurgeon to either continue to monitor the tumour or go for surgery, I opted for the latter. Throughout all my consultations over the past 2 years the quality of advice and support has never been less than 100%. My surgeon kept me informed and was highly professional at all times. When I was admitted last week for my op I was obviously nervous but the nurses and staff on Ward 4 and 40 were fantastic. The operation cleared almost 99% of the tumour leaving only some small sections where it would have caused unnecessary risk to my life to try and remove it. Post-op care was top notch and I would to thank each and every nurse, nurse practitioner, physio, cleaner, surgeon and anyone else involved in my recovery. I was never really in any pain thanks to a well-managed combination of pain-killers and was home within 4 days. My follow-up care will continue for several years with MRI scans planned in the future to track any changes but I have confidence that, if things do take a turn for the worse, the staff at Hull Royal infirmary will be able to deal with it capably and professionally.
