"My moms care at University hospital Birmingham "

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / Clinical haematology Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / Hepatology

(as a carer),

I'm the main carer for my mom whose health deteriorated in 2011 when she fell unwell with diagnosed cirrhosis of the liver (autoimmune). The illness shocked our mom and the family as mom had never been unwell before. Moms weight fell, she became so poorly and very weak. Mom was only 61 and she could barely stand up or walk.

Since June 2012 mom has been cared for by the excellent consultants at university hospital Birmingham NHS FT. As a carer I have appreciated how they have listened to mom, explained the situation & illness to her. Mom speaks good English and so no assumptions have been made about our ethnicity. Instead both of us have been treated with utmost value & respect.

As a carer I haven't faced objections to my numerous questions, in fact, they have listened and responded respectfully.

Recent support from haemotologist consultants have been excellent & we are finally nearing a full diagnosis & treatment plan.

A recent stay in hospital ward 621, staff were amazing & included my views as a carer and very respectful to mom.

I work in the NHS and was able to move my office to accommodate moms treatment, which has helped with support of the angel nurses, who helped mom feel relaxed & smile whilst having her treatment.

We don't say thank you enough to our wonderful staff, I hope the team liked the card I sent them to say thank you.

Thanks
