What I liked
My wife had a triple by-pass at the Freeman and I was allowed to stay many hours
during which I marvelled at the dedication of ALL the staff in looking after my wife.
I have spent the last forty years in visiting various hospitals in the region and in this respect it comes out tops
What could be improved
The Freeman could do with a makeover,
the wood cladding on some walls does not go with the hospital cleaniless now required
Although the floor coverings are much better that the dirty carpeting I have seen in other major hospital, and that are not easily kept cleaned.
I was very impressed when I entered one of the wards where I was supervised by a nurse when washing my hands and aproned
This should happen in all wards, I feel strongly about this have lost two family members due to hospital infections including MRSA but NOT in the Freeman!
I found that at least one ward was some distance from the the theatre and similar specialist wards, and it would seem that the hospital would benefit from planning/ work study expertise.
Notwithstanding the apparent management probems , ALL the staff cope very well and have organised themselves to the benefit of the patients, The consultants, doctors nursing staff and porters functioned perfectly asa team and could not be bettered!
I have had some forty years plus in middle management, work study , etc and I know
excellent teamwork when I see it
