About: New Cross Hospital

Anything else?

My wife was admitted first time for hyperemesis gravidarum, following a referral from GP. There are a bunch of very good nurses who is so kind and helpful (thank you to these nurses you made my wife feel at home and safe), then there are quite a few who are not empathetic and patient friendly. They do the job, no complaints there, but they dont make the patient feel very welcome and quite abrupt in their reply when the patient asks any questions. They missed the first and foremost principle of nursing " Nurses and nursing staff treat everyone in their care with dignity and humanity – they understand their individual needs, show compassion and sensitivity, and provide care in a way that respects all people equally." Second time when we came again because of the same problem, even though the GP confirmed and referred to the hospital as she was dehydrated and have to get fluids in, the doctor after inserting a needle to give fluid decided to remove it in few mins saying she doesnt need the fluids (they could have waited few more mins before inserting the needle) then they came back with a theory that she is not dehydrated but have a urine infection because she didnt have enough fluids and didnt go to wee many times. I I thought that is called dehydration? I even asked the doctor before she removed the mistakenly inserted needle, could she not have fluids in to make her wee as she couldnt keep any fluids in, her response was she has to sign for it . She she will recommend antibiotics, since she is pregnant any body would have given her antibiotics immediately, but they said the pharmacy is closed and I have to call in tomorrow to get the prescription and sent her home. After coming home, she is not able to keep any fluids in!! Who will take responsibility if my wife loses her baby as urine infection was caused because of dehydration. No information was given about her test results? Has the infection gone to blood no idea, so there is no peace of mind even after being to the hospital. It is now almost 22 hrs since we were in the hospital, rang the department three times already no body have a clue where the prescription is? Wanted to raise a complain and called the PALS responsible around 1600, already left the office or so, no reply to my voice mail. At the end of the day as a gyn department they should ensure that both the mother and baby are not at risk. To me this doesnt seem to have been their concern. By writing this review I am trying to establish how helpless I am and how I am losing trust on NHS.
