Anything else?
After all the bad press the NHS gets on care, cleanliness etc I feel it necessary to add my first hand experience On October30th2013I was admitted on to Ward 9 ortho elective for a knee replacement We (the new patients) were given a warm reassuring welcome and the procedure of care continued to discharge At all times everything was explained clearly The ward staff worked as a team with smiles and encouragement So how busy they were ,and they were very busy ,they would always make time to give you a bed pan or escort you to the loo. The food was fine and if you were too ill to eat they would tempt you with an alternative .They were quick to keep pain levels to a minimum . In fact I would say that the care and support could not have been improved on in the private sector . My bed was close to a wash hand basin and each member of staff always washed their hands between procedures and it was obvious that was the norm Theatre staff were professional and friendly at the same time The only let down in the system was the physiotherapy they came during breakfast and had little time to give and no allowance for first day dizziness / fainting the physios were very pleasant but seemed to be hurtling from one task to the next As I was one who felt faint I asked if they could wait 5 mins No I would be left til the next day fortunately the nurses helped me in the afternoon to start walking To be ready for the physio I got up early went for a wash and dressed ,left breakfast so I could do the final checks to go home This is not a criticism of the individual physio they were lovely but they are not given enough time to achieve their target and it would be better if they were part of the hospital team and not the community Since discharge the care continues If anyone reading this is to have an operation or procedure have no doubts that you will be cared for at Leighton Hospital.
