"Operation on Foot"

About: Barnsley Hospital

Anything else?

Very good service from pre-admission to tests to admission. Everyone very efficient. Just have a suggestion that I believe would polish the customer experience really. I did not see a doctor on my discharge and I would have been less apprehensive if I had left knowing exactly what the surgeon had found, what he had done, why the stitches were where they (or rather it) was - since there were no stiches on the actual wound as such and also why the big bandage on my foot was there and what was it doing. I was given no instructions as to re-dressing or bathing. The antiembolism stocking on my good leg was ok but why did I not have one on my leg where the operation had taken place. 4-6 weeks to wear the stockings was a bit of a vague instruction - should it have been 4 or 6? I took them off occasionally to get some relief and when I went to my GP he was happy for me not to wear them - it was confusing so I thought a little more explanation as to what they were all about would have been useful. I did not get my D1 or sick note when I left the hospital - it took a week for them to get to me. When I came back to clinic the nurse was rather rough taking out the stitch and it hurt. The surgeon explained what he had done in the operation - better late than never. He then said he did not need to see me again, which was fine. The customer care I would have liked at this point was a little consideration regarding returning to work. I had to call the surgeon back and ask if I needed to stay off work any longer. I told him what I did for a living and he gave me a note for one week - I felt he was reluctant to do this but I don't know why because until that appointment I had not had a shoe on never mind the pain and any idea that I could work with it. Thank you
