"Exemplary practice at Gartnavel General Hospital"

I was referred to the ENT outpatient department at Gartnavel General in Glasgow.

After a short wait I was seen by Dr David Crampsey who shared some results with me. While the results did not cast much light on the problem in hand his approach to the consultation was exemplary. He was relaxed and friendly, listened very carefully to what I had to say and, more importantly, took what I had to say seriously.

Also while he could not offer a direct solution he was immediately willing to make a referral to another department for further investigation. A final example of his person-centred approach was at the end he dictated two letters, the first to my GP and the second in relation to the referral.

In doing so he sought my assurance that his reporting of our exchange was accurate and allowed me to hear exactly what his view of the situation was – so simple but so empowering. Thanks.
