"Impressive experience in Day Surgery Centre 18..."

I was very impressed with my experience in the Day Surgery Centre recently. I have written directly to the Chief Executive and asked him to pass in my thanks directly to all the staff involved and some in particular, for their exceptional level of care. The whole process of the Day Surgery Centre was very professional and efficient. There were a lot of people being admitted at 7.30am and all of the staff were extremely friendly, cheerful and competent. The staff nurse who admitted me was very calm, helpful and reassuring. I was visited before the procedure by the Anaesthetist who was charming, very reassuring and really put me at my ease. I was most worried about having a general anaesthetic - when arrived she introduced herself and said she would be putting me to sleep. I said I hoped she was also going to wake me up too - and she told me that I would do that myself! It was quite a funny moment and we were both laughing, which really made me feel much more relaxed. The Consultant and one of his team, also visited me and between them explained in detail what they would be doing during the procedure. I actually had my procedure in one of the main theatres, so I was escorted up there, where the Anaesthetist and her colleague were waiting for me. She reassured me that she would be with me all the time during the procedure to keep me asleep and the last thing I remember is her wishing me 'sweet dreams'. I spent part of my recovery time upstairs and at some point was taken in a bed back down to the Day Surgery Centre, where I was looked after by two very kind and supportive staff nurses. I was given something to eat and drink and encouraged to rest and continue to wake up gently. In summary, it was a very good experience. I was impressed with all the staff I met, who did all genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs, which they did with great professionalism, care and reassurance. I think everyone should be congratulated on providing a first class service. I would also mention my Consultant's secretary, who has been very helpful and efficient throughout the few months of tests I have had, which culminated in my visit to the Day Surgery Centre. She always returned my calls, got answers to my questions and sorted things out when they got 'stuck'! My thanks to all involved.
