My 82 year old father was seen today for a suspected blood clot on his lung. He had a GP referral and when we arrived at the unit about 12.30 we were immediately taken to a 4 bed room.
A friendly nurse greeted us, took dad's blood pressure, blood sample and ECG. A doctor arrived immediately and took details of symptoms and said that a chest Xray would be taken and then he would return when the results were back.
Within seconds of the doctor leaving a porter arrived and took dad for his Xray. 10 to 15 minutes passed and dad was returned by the porter who checked that dad was comfortable in the position the bed had been returned in.
About 20 to 30 minutes later a doctor came to say all tests looked ok and the pain was probably caused by pleurisy, he amended dad's medication and said he was fine to go home.
The ward was spotlessly clean and the staff were very efficient. As we were leaving dad was offered a cup of tea. He felt like a VIP!
