"Staff told me I was early despite letter confirming appointment"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at the Ophthalmology department in early October but when I arrived they said I was 4 months too early and that my appointment was not until Jan 2014.

I had my appointment letter with me showing the October date, they took that from me but didn’t say anything about that letter. They made me look a bit foolish in front of other people in the waiting area by telling me I was too early.

It cost me in both time and money to get to the hospital, it was an important appointment for me as the results could affect my being able to drive again. The DVLA are waiting for the results of this appointment.

Dear Famous756

This doesn't sound like a very helpful response and given that it was our mistake, I would have expected that you should have been seen for the date on the letter and certainly not sent away and asked to come back in 4 months time. I have asked the manager responsible for that service to make contact with me to discuss how best to sort this for you. Can you please let me know your details so that we can make arrangements to deal with this in the personalised manner that it deserves?

I can be contacted at craig.white@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Best wishes

Professor Craig A White
