I feel compelled to add an addendum to my previous review given in October, 2013. I have pondered how to give due and deserved praise to individuals without directly naming them and yet allowing them to know that their caring was especially noted (these are the individuals who were directly responsible for my care rather than for the wards care (or gave solace beyond their remit). I have hopefully found a way of doing this: Firstly to the night team who look after Ward 4 in the dark hours when a patients fears are at their highest and problems are most likely to happen (in the day their are plenty of distractions and a larger, though by no means large (usually a few carers are added to double the size of the team) team to call upon. Especially over the week-end when the staff of doctors are at a minimum. My specific healers who I have great gratitude too given that they really were worked of there feet, not even having time to take breaks, and yet found time to care for each in their charge no matter how overloaded they were. Secondly to one particularly nurse on the day team who like the night nurses went way beyond the nursing remit in looking after those in her care; again working through breaks and well beyond her hours, putting the patients before personal comfort. And finally for a young lady who I believe was the housekeeper of Ward 4 bedroom 3. She gave great support to me and many other patients by talking to us whilst she worked. Indeed, I probably talked more to this wonderful lady than the nurses; as the nurses are spread very thin and their work requires a good deal more concentration, as their attention is directly on the patients treatments/comfort/problems which naturally means they have less time to chat, especially at the end of a long shift or during times of additional stress. I hope this young lady is given due praise for her friendly and supportive role which, in my view, are probably well beyond her house keeper job description. I am especially keen on this, as this is probably the least recognized and least praised job on the ward, and yet as this young lady as shown, can still be performed in a very caring manner. (Patients need mental and spiritual support as much or even more than physical support, and chatting is the best way to do this; especially if the carer/healer shows real concern/interest). I do have a real concern for all your staff, but especially the nurses, because they are under real stress (life and death decisions, being so over worked that they must consume relaxation time to finish their tasks, fear of making a mistake or forgetting something, especially towards the end of such long shifts) and must suffer greatly (even with professional training) from such stresses. I can only keep them in my prayers and hope this will at least make then proud to be healers.

I was delighted to read such a compliment regarding your care and treatment and have forwarded your comments onto the Matron and Ward Sister responsible for Ward 4, who was very pleased to read them. The Matron and Ward Sister will share with all the staff the glowing comments you have made. It is always rewarding and such a boost to morale to receive such positive comments. Thank you
