I recently wrote to the Chief Executive of Hammersmith Hospital to highlight the excellent care I received at the above department. I have been a patient of this department for about 20 years. I suffer from a genetic condition whereby my blood clots and share this problem with my father and a number of other relatives. During the past 20 years the care I have received at this clinic is excellent. The nature of my condition means that I can suffer a clot without any warning so this can be stressful. I have had 6 clots in the past. However, the care I have received at this department has given me the support I need to lead a full and active life. I attend the anticoagulant clinic every few weeks and am seen by two of excellent nurses. The care they provide is consistently high - they are lively and welcoming in the clinic, very knowledgable and give each patient time to discuss any issues they may have. I also see the doctor if my blood is out of range and, again, she will assess any issues and ensure that my medication is adjusted accordingly. The department is lead by a person who has consistenty treated my family with total professionalist and leads an excellent team. He has conducted research in to our rare genetic condition and is a leading specialist in this area. I have been well for some time but I know that if I get concerned they will always see me in order to reassess my condition and give any reassurance. At a time when the NHS is having to make significant cost savings - this department has managed to achieve consistent high quality care and this is much appreciated by my family. I am a senior manager in the NHS myself and realise how much pressure the NHS is under to meet targets with less resources so I felt it was long overdue to give my feedback on this first class department. This hospital is certainly one of the best I have been to and would certainly be my choice to continue to provide my care for the future.
