"Aftercare regarding sons op"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Paediatrics Rotherham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son went to have some metal work removed from his forearm. It was day surgery so we were only there from 7. 30am-3pm.

My son went into theatre at 10am & was back on the childrens ward for 11. 30am. The nurse who kept taking his temp/blood pressure was brill. The play nurses were fantastic. I felt my son was looked after in regards to entertainment wise.

However, we saw NO doctor/surgeon whatsoever before we left. We didn't hear how the op went, whether there was any problems, whether it went to plan, what to do after, whether the holes left in his bones were ok, how long it would take for them to heal etc. the only thing we got told was to remove my sons bandages after 2 days & was given an appointment card to return for his stitches removed.

Dear Jsmammyx, thank you for your post on Patient Opinion. We are pleased to hear that you feel your son received good nursing care on the Children’s Ward and that the play nurses were fantastic. However, we are sorry to hear that you left the hospital unclear of the outcome of the operation and what to expect going forward.

We would be grateful if you would contact Yvonne Weakley, Service Director for Children & Young People's Services on telephone 01709 423376 who would be more than happy to look into this and ensure the answers to any of your outstanding queries are sought.

With best wishes,

Kerry
