"My GP service is a waste of time"

About: South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw

(as the patient),

Briefly, receptionists are rude and unorganised. They continuously interrupt you speaking whilst on the phone and in person, but then accuse you of being rude when you tell them to stop doing so. They are slow to serve people on the reception desk - waiting times of 15-20 minutes simply to speak with a receptionist are usual with queues going out of the door, but they will have one person on the reception with several sitting around out the back.

In my opinion most of the GP's are simply useless and a waste of time. It is not unusual for them to be 40 minutes late for their appointments (and that's for a mid-morning appointment, goodness knows what it would be like late afternoon). The GP's, from my experience, do not make decisions even on the most basic medical queries, but will be more than happy to waste more of your time asking you to return to see another GP instead. It really is completely and utterly bizarre.

Speaking personally, a set of clear instructions was given to my GP surgery by a consultant at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital asking that a referral be made at once if future issues arise. The GP's at my health service have not followed the instructions, despite them being crystal clear, which has meant that I will in all likelihood have to sign up for a private appointment despite not knowing (or being told by the university health service) how much it would cost prior to agreeing to it.

They have wasted my time, and now my money.
