"Telephone appointment prescription"

About: NHS Grampian

(as the patient),

My prescription had ceased to be effective, so I tried to get a gp appointment at Forres health centre which I was unsuccessful doing unless I had requested an emergency appointment which I didn't think was necessary.

I finally gave up after 10 days and requested a telephone gp appointment. Nothing wrong there as I was called within the hour at about 12: 30pm.

The gp changed my prescription saying I need to come in to speak to a gp. Easier said than done. The gp also said that prescription would be sent up to my local pharmacy by end of the day. I left it until the following day, Saturday, they had no knowledge of the prescription, that was no good to me as surgery was closed for the weekend.

I checked the other two pharmacies in town just in case it had been sent there by mistake, it hadn't. So had to wait until monday check to see where it was. On phoning the gp surgery all I got was the doctor must have brought it to late for it to be picked up, from 12. 30! ! ! And that it had been picked by the pharmacy that morning. So I called the pharmacy to see if it was there. No she said as they haven't been picked up yet. Good job my prescription was for anything life threatening!

Update posted by Finlay (the patient)

Hello, thank you for the response, I must admit that my experience, with the health centre, yesterday was completely opposite to previously. The new prescription did not agree with me so telephoned yet again for an appointment. Again there were none except an emergency appointment. I relented,as it had been a fortnight of trying to see a gp face to face, and took it. Apart from inevitably running late, the gp could not have been nicer and took time to listen. However I did not go into detail about my previous experience but something did make me wonder if someone in the health centre had read my story and put 2 and 2 together as to who I am. Sometimes we all need a nudge to put us back into place before becoming too complacent. Thank you for this website. We patients need a voice too. Lets hope that forres health centre can improve their appointment system starting with being able to book one in advance and not having to wait for them to be released on the day. But that is another wee story.
