About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

I took my wife to Urgent care on Monday evening, after been told we were going to have to wait in a packed and overflowing A&E Department for over 4 hours we went home as it was too hot and stressful and causing more distress. We went to our GP who was appalled that patients who genuinely needed urgent care were turning away from help. He sent us back. We waited hours again to be seen. Under the circumstances the staff are very good, how are they going to ever achieve a good rating under these conditions? They are simply overloaded trying to cover too many areas at this one unit. It's not fair on the staff or patients. The cubicles were full, the waiting area was standing room only, people on ambulance stretchers in the corridors, it was like something from the 3rd world. My wife was asked to lay on a trolley that had previously been used judging by the stains, it was quickly remade, but this is how infection spreads. I observed cleaners passing the buck to nurses, are they not permitted to mop up blood, or remove waste? The whole thing was over stretched, it's a wonder they manage. What is the management doing about these appalling conditions for both staff and patients? The strain is at breaking point for both. If they are too deal with this amount of capacity they should have 2 A&E departments at this hospital and not let this terrible situation continue, better yet! Reopen Burnley again. This solution is clearly not working. Personally I'd hate for this situation to continue and be in the same position again, frightening. My wife had to be admitted in the end. I feel sorry for the troopers who are keeping this department running, somebody help them, they are doing their best, they just haven't got enough resources, it's cruel. Thank you to all the brilliant staff who helped us, keep up the good work!! I know you were giving us your all but you simply had too much load. We understand that.
