"My visit to Royal Blackburn"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

I found the A&E department over stretched, too many patients and over a 4 hour wait. I understand they have to cope with burnley and surrounding areas as well as their own districts, this is unexceptable, they are vastly overloaded. The quality of staff and care remained good under the circumstances. Hygiene within the hospital could be better. The staff were marvellous with an odd exception. Employing matrons again could deal with both issues. Matrons always oversaw cleanliness, hygiene and staff suitability to the profession and workers with a clear non vocational attitude were weeded out, such as the young lady that I was unfortunate enough to deal with when i was admitted. She had a this is a job attitude rather than a nursing attitude. She ignored basis requests that meant the difference between a patient eating and not eating. It could have easily been resolved, she did not care that a patient was struggling and asking for help. I did not let this distract from my overall view of her excellent Colleagues as they provided excellent care as well as good nursing coupled with morale boosting smiles and dedication. On the whole Royal Blackburn hospital are coping very well under the circumstances but are in need of more supplies (I.e. pillows, equipment) upgrading some of their working conditions (I.e. wards need upgrading), more staff. They should not have to soldier on under these conditions, affecting both staff and patients. I think bringing back Matrons would be a step in the right direction.
