"Excellent treatment throughout my pathway of care for my bulimia "

I received excellent treatment throughout my pathway of care for my Bulimia between November 2011 to August 2013.

My GP care was excellent. It was an extremely difficult appointment to make and go through with. The GP was sensitive, supportive and gave me time to come round to the idea of being referred. I did not feel judged, I felt like I was taken seriously and I trusted her. I was initially referred by my GP to the Ten Acres Centre for an assessment, which I found very traumatic at the time. I had assumed that this was where I would receive treatment but it was an intermediate referral from which I was sent to the Eating Disorder's Service.

There was initially a very long wait of about 5 months for treatment to commence which was an extremely difficult time as I felt like although I had finally plucked up the courage to seek treatment, I wasn't being helped. I understand that this is likely due to the pressure on the service and now I am out of the other side it is less of a problem.

The only improvement that may have made my experience better is to have been referred directly to the Eating Disorders Service by my GP without the intermediate stage at the Ten Acres Center to reduce the wait for treatment.

I was treated with regular sessions by a dedicated team of psychotherapist, dietitian and psychiatrist who gave me an excellent service. They have empowered me to enter recovery and remain here so far. I could not have got better without the care of this service.
