"Successful laproscopy for three hernias."

About: Winfield Hospital

Anything else?

From the moment I entered this hospital (9:30 a.m.) I was made to feel 'at home' and waited about ten minutes in the Premium Waiting Area. I was then taken to my own room and had the next procedures explained clearly and helpfully by the nurse who was kind and courteous at all times, a real asset to The Winfield. I was left a menu for a meal later that day. I went down to the anaesthetist at about 11:00 a.m. after he had been to see me to explain his procedure and to reassure me. The consultant called in as well to indicate the operation would take about an hour and was very kind and considerate. I woke at about 1:30 p.m. but was very disorientated, I requested a visit to the toilet and a lovely lady helped me, so I dozed until about 2:30 p.m. and woke enough to ring my wife at about 3:00 p.m. to assure her that all had gone well. Then a nurse came to see me and check on my dressings, a bleed was occurring on the abdominal stitch, which she dealt with. She popped back to monitor my blood pressure and breathing regularly, giving me oxygen twice during the afternoon that seemed to pass by very quickly. My meal came eventually, (just about the right time as I was getting peckish), absolutely delicious Tuna and Mayonnaise in brown bread. Great! I asked if the consultant was going to visit me and the nurse informed me he had left at 2:30 .m. so if he had done so I was not aware. At about 6 p.m. I asked the nurse if it would be all right to ring home for my wife to collect me as I was due to leave at 6:30 p.m. and she told me to get dressed after a final appraisal. I was collected at 6:50 p.m. approx. and made my goodbyes. I would just like to say that the nurse was the epitome of what I would expect from a member of staff, kind, thoughtful, helpful and efficient. I can only finish this appraisal with a resounding thank you for everyone at The Winfield.
