"The ward nurses were kind, cheerful, ..."

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The ward nurses were kind, cheerful, supportive. Excellent. The radiologist who did my chest X-ray was pleasant. The technician who did my ECG was nice, the same goes for the anaesthetists and the CT scan staff. The canteen was very pleasant and cheerful and the food was cheap and good. The ancillary staff on the ward were good.

What could be improved

The consultant who treated me for cancer was rude and cruel. His specialist nurse supported him in this verbally and in writing. The operation I had proved to be too radical. None of the consultants involved in my diagnosis attended the meeting to approve my surgery. The E.Cheshire NHS Trust were dilatory about some parts of their response to my complaint and I felt I got no justice from them. The Healthcare Commission has since recommended that both the consultant and the nurse alter the way they treat patients. Because of these two, the time I spent at this hospital constituted the worst and most frightening days and nights of my life.
