What I liked

This was my first time at this hospital as a patient, and I found all the staff from my pre-operation through to being admitted and discharged from the day case unit, were polite, professional and caring. My recovery after the hernia repair has been very good.

What could be improved

The waiting area at the pre-operation department is rather small. It would also be good if a waiting area on admission and discharge at the day case unit for relatives.

As a trust we aim to provide the best customer service to our patients. We are pleased to hear that the staff you met during your stay at hospital were polite professional and caring.

We are aware that due to limitations on space at the hospital, the pre-operative assessment waiting area is smaller than we would like. However we are keen to ensure that as many patients as possible can be seen on the day of their appointment, saving them an extra trip to the hospital. Therefore the clinic runs at the same time as the outpatient clinics and we were limited as to where we could hold the clinic. We hope that the advantage of this outweighs the problem of the size of the department.

There are currently seats provided on the Day Case Unit for the use of carers and recovering patients. Due to restrictions on space, we ask relatives to return to collect patients or to wait in one of our rest areas such as the Treetops Restaurant. We have reserved dedicated parking for the Day Case Unit.

During this year the Trust is looking at how waiting areas can be improved, and how to make the best use of the space available.
