Called an Ambulance early in the morning one day due to palpitations, racing heartbeat, tightness in left arm and chest pain. I was 'Blue Lighted' into resuscitation at St Helier. I was met by 2 Doctors and 2 Nurses and straight away I was put on Oxygen and they got to work. They struggled for ages trying to put a cannula in but eventually, after what seemed like 20 odd times, they succeeded. I was given 3 x Adenosine to try and slow my heart rate down which didn't work. Then they mentioned about having to use the defibrillator to shock my heart, I was given some sort of sedative and was shocked 3 times which again didn't work. Eventually I was given something by IV and that seemed to have some effect as well as the IV Fluid with Potassium in and the IV Magnesium. It was a frightening experience to go through, I didn't realise how serious and how Ill I really was but there was one nurse in particular who made me feel safe, I think Her name was Michelle. Thank you very much for looking after me the way you did and also coming to see me on AMU the next night. I will never forget you.
