Anything else?
My 87 year old godmother attended an appointment at the GP Referral Unit yesterday 16 October 2013, 9.15am. I went with her to the appointment. She suffers from numerous medical problems and was there to have her bloods investigated and a chest X-ray and is suffering from acute odeama. I can honestly say that she received faultless care and attention from all the staff attending to her during her visit and I would like to thank all the staff concerned. but the wait for hospital transport to take her back to her Care Home was totally unacceptable. The transport was ordered at 1.50pm and after two additional enquiries to ask what had happened to it, it finally arrived at 4.50pm. I don't consider it good practice to keep a lady of her age and frailty waiting for this length of time sitting on a hospital wheelchair not knowing when she would return to the Home. Her water retention was not eased during this time and her legs became even more swollen. I would like to register my disappointment and suggest that a better system of organisation for the transport needs to be implemented especially for older people.
