"I should be entitled to sympathetic treatment at my GP surgery"

About: NHS Tameside and Glossop CCG

(as a staff member),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who asked not to have their name published. They said...

I feel I am unpopular and unwelcome at my GP's surgery because I am reluctant to take drugs to lower my cholesterol. I have always used alternative therapies, including yoga and diet, to keep myself healthy. When my cholesterol level was tested it was above 5 and my GP wanted me to take medication but I refused. I've had it tested recently at Tesco's pharmacy and it has come down to below 5 as I have put myself on a low-fat diet, but don't think I should have had to pay for these tests myself.

I should be entitled at my age to sympathetic treatment at my GP's surgery but am now unwilling to go there.
