I was asked to attend the admissions Lounge on the 10th October in the north wing for a biopsy on my throat, at 7.30 am and not to eat or drink after 6am. I was kept waiting on a hard chair with no water or food for 8 hours, there was not even a tv, and I along with other people did not get any explanation or dialog with any member of the admissions team, in fact they kept a distinct distance from the room we were in. I was then called to have a gown put on and left in a room on my own for another two hours, with the window open, I was cold and dehydrated by the time I went down for my op, 10 hours after I was asked to attend, no nurse came to check on me in the room. I came round after my operation at 6pm, I was not allowed to leave recovery until I had eaten, and a sandwich was ordered at around 7 pm, the sandwich did not arrive until 9pm, I had not eaten in over 24 hours the staff and other patients had gone home leaving one nurse to see me out, I got home at 9.30 that night after spending 14 hours in Hospital for a half hour procedure. I have never been treated so badly in my entire life, I work for the public sector and understand money is tight, but this is completely unacceptable and avoidable..amongst other people, there was an 82 year old lady also waiting for nearly as long as I was. I do not understand why , if the team know the order of priority , which they must, they could not have asked me to stay at home in comfort until maybe 1 or two hours prior to my operation, it is in humain to be expected to sit looking at a wall for this length of time, not to mention the added risk of DVT, and stress prior to an operation.
