"Incompetence of sexual health services!"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Portsmouth)

Anything else?

I had called ahead and arranged an appointment for a full screening for 3:30pm (half an hour before the GUM clinic opened) as I had a lecture at 5pm which was of vital importance. I attended and was 10 minutes early and was then told to sit in the wrong waiting room. After a half an hour wait the walk-in screens patients were being seen too and still I had not been. After I addressed the receptionist I was told I had been waiting in the wrong room then directed to the correct waiting room and told I would be seen. After another half an hour (while 10 walk ins had been seen and had left) I again went back and addressed the receptionist. I was then informed the doctor had gone home. I was then given a card and told to wait for a screening. Another half an hour pasted (at this point my bladder had started to hurt incredibly as I could not use the rest room before being seen!) I was then seen by a nurse who said 'so you missed your appointment at 3:30?'. No, no I did not, I was misdirected by a member of staff. This is an incredible account of incompetence on the part of all staff involved. I am shocked and appalled at this. I subsequently was not seen until 5pm (an hour and 40 minutes after arriving) and hence missed my 5pm lecture! I am usually seen to very quickly and effectively by nice warm staff, the nurse who did my blood test is a fine example of a warm member of staff, everyone else involved have proved themselves incredibly unreliable in an area that is a sensitive subject (sexual health).
