"Wonderful staff for minor operation"

About: Stafford Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

In October 2013 I was admitted to Stafford Hospital day ward for minor corrective surgery.

Unsure of where the ward was, I asked a gentleman at the main reception desk who directed me to the ward. Once there I was greeted by Mark, a nurse who took care of my admittance, bed allocation etc, and later, prior to my operation, I was seen by my consultant (excellent bedside manner with relaxing sense of humour), and the 'crazy looking' anaesthetist.

At op time I was walked down to the anaesthetic room and greed by several other members of the nursing staff, all very friendly and chatty, taking the mind off the impending operation. I awoke in recovery where I was looked after by a friendly young lady (recently qualified I believe she told me), before she took me back to the ward. Again on the ward I was met with the best possible care and attention with all staff taking time out to chat with me (and other patients).

Given the fact that certain sections of society seem to be hell bent on destroying Stafford hospital and criticising the hard working staff, I was amazed that, although their morale must be extremely low, not one person betrayed this towards their patients. Indeed, they were all good humoured, friendly, laughing and joking. Without trying to sound condescending, but even the young lady doing an excellent job cleaning the ward spent 10 minutes chatting to me.

Could you please try to identify, and pass on my extreme gratitude to all members of staff who I came into contact with, and those involved in my care that day, they are an absolute credit to their profession.

Dear "Bazaman"

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this lovely feedback about your experience while in our care.

I have shared your feedback with the day surgery team who I know will be delighted. Comments like yours really do make a difference to the staff who are working very hard to ensure that all patients are cared for to a standard they would expect for themselves and their families.

Kind Regards

Angela Grocott
