"My stay in Bronglais hospital, Aberystwyth"

About: Bronglais General Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I was admitted with memory issues to Angharad (children's although I was 16 at the time) ward and was met by some lovely nurses who really cared and made me as comfortable as possible and spoke to me as a proper person.

I'm sad to say the doctors were not so good. From the start they weren't telling me anything, as a minor all decisions were made over the phone to my parents but I never had any information about my care. A doctor approached me with the needle etc ready to take blood for tests but I hadn't been informed of this (by then I was better and could remember everything so would know if I had been asked/told as my friend will agree).

The doctor then used my friend to hold my arm for the blood test, not a tourniquet or even a nurse doing that job. From then on the doctors hardly spoke to me and nurses couldn't give me any information if the doctors weren't cooperating.

I then stayed another night as they couldn't get hold of the doctor I was going to see. The whole time there were student doctors or suchlike, often four accompanying one doctor with a nurse which was too many people and it was unclear who the one in charge was.

There were also large amounts of time where a nurse would not be around to speak to.
