"Had to chase up out come of invvestigation"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Anything else?

In May when pregnant thought I had ectopic pregnancy which turned out to be ovarian cyst. Most of the staff then were very supportive despite being very busy. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage in June when I mentioned the cyst to the consultant I was told I would need to go back for a scan in 6 weeks. I promptly received an appointment for 6 weeks time. I went for my scan towards end of July yet after 6 weeks I nor my GP had heard anything from the hospital. I contacted the consultants secretary to enquire what was happening as I was in a lot of pain. The next evening I was received a phone call from the consultant telling me the cyst was still there (know that from the pain) and I would be put on waiting list could take up to 16 weeks, great, 16 more weeks of pain. End of September due to pain I contact the consultants secretary to enquire after a date for the op only to be informed it would probably be after christmas as I didn't goon waiting list until 5th Sept at this point she informed me I would also need a pre assessment this hadn't been mentioned in the past, but an appointment was made there and then. Nobody followed up my scan until I chased them up. What I find extremely frustrating is the fact if someone had followed it up the I could have been put on the waiting list at least 5 weeks earlier. If you are wondering why I waited so long before following it up. Its because following the miscarriage the consultant informed me if the scan was ok then there would be no follow up I would only hear if the cyst was still there. When people are treated the way I have been, it makes me ashamed to admit I am a nurse.

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate you taking the time to outline the issues that you have experienced and I apologise that we have not followed up your scan appointment in July. It then seems to me that this has had an impact or delay in planning any future care that you may have needed with us. I have discussed this with our gynaecology service manager who would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you and then agree a way forward in helping you. Please do contact me on 01634 825157 so we can talk this through. Karen McIntyre Karen Head of Gynaecology Nursing
