"Head & Neck clinical nurse"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

Anything else?

I would like to express my sincere and extreme thanks to a lady who is truly an angel in disguise. On August 12th I had a follow-up appointment in the Maxillo-Facial clinic at Queens Hospital. This was for the result of a biopsy I had done 2 weeks previously. When I went in to see the consultant, he unfortunately gave me the worst possible result, the biopsy on a small ulcer on my tongue had been analysed and found to be cancerous. He assured me that it was a treatable cancer but just hearing that word scared me immensly. He introduced me to the nurse sitting with him who was a head and neck clinical nurse specialist. She staright away was very comforting and said we could go to another private room where she would give me time digest this awful news, and explain what would be happening next as far as my planned treatment etc. She was absolutely fantastic in the way she comforted me, explaining everything in a calming and caring way. She even spoke to my wife on the phone to help explain when I was unable to as I was so upset. She then said that I should go home and come back with my wife that same day and she would go through everything with both of us. She then proceded to arrange for my Ulra-sound, MRI and CT scans all within that week so that we could go through with our holiday which was booked for the following weekend, and even arranged to email me the results of those scans so that if I wanted to I could know what those results were while I was away. On my return the specialist nurse was again fantastic, always available to us on email or phone, always very calming and very caring. My surgery took place at Royal London Hospital on Sep 5th, and again after that she was always available to us for any help and advise regarding my post-op medication and dietry advise etc. Thank God that the results from my operation came through last week and again she was there to inform us of the incredibly fantastic news that I've been given the all-clear. We just wanted to express our immense thanks to the consultant and his team, but especially to the nurse, as we have done to her in person, and to let you guys know via this email just what an incredible person she is. We really hope that you can again pass on our gratitude on to her. Thanks so much Regards Dean Lawrence
