"Horrendous truly horrendous"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

Just returned home after spending 8 hours 15 mins in A&E. When we arrived people were already on trolleys just dumped in every perceivable gap they could find. People stood outside on the car park to try and cool down, no seats for anyone etc, etc. spent just over 5 hours standing on the car park as there was no room in the Dept. Eventually went in to speak to someone who said "we are extremely busy - it could be another 2 hours yet", went away and waited and waited and went back to ask again and actually got to speak to a wonderful Sister who checked our details and realised just how long we had been there! After 7+ hours we finally got to see a Doctor! Then we had to wait again for another 'Service' to come and see us, saw that by this stage the Dept had actually run out of trolleys and the poor staff were panicking at the influx of further patients arriving. After the 8 hours 15 mins we were released - during the whole time we were there, which I remind you was 8+ hours, we were offered no water to drink etc, the machine was broke to get a can from (to get to it you had to literally walk over people who were sitting on the floor etc). One member of staff said that in his 7 years in the Dept he had never seen anything like it and that he was trying to find trolleys to help out. As we were leaving, 5 more Ambulances arrived and we over-heard one Paramedic say "don't know where we are supposed to put them anymore", there were patients literally sat on the floor at Reception as they had no-where else to go! Horrendous truly horrendous - never in my days have I ever seen anything like it - not something I want to ever see again! Something seriously needs sorting out in that Dept if this is a daily occurrence and it's not the Staff's fault, Management need to actually get down there and see what is happening in that Dept and stop sitting around tables discussing what they cant afford to do whilst drinking coffee and eating biscuits, physically get down there and get your hands dirty and find out what is going on and try to help those suffering Staff members you employ! Horrendous, truly horrendous........
