"Repeated bad experiences"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Anything else?

My 2 year old has chronic lung disease among other problems including feeding problems and developmental delay. In the 3 times he has been admitted we have carefully instructed the nurses about the care he needs with regards to feeds, likes/dislikes etc. This is common practice on the children's ward so that nurses can make the stay comfortable for the children. However, I'm yet to see these instructions be carried out by any of the nursing staff. The requests I make are not difficult. Things like 'offer him food by mouth before each feed so he learns how to eat by himself' have never been taken seriously. It's obviously much easier to simply put him on a feed pump. On to the doctors and I am sick of hearing 'you know your child better than us' but then not having anything I say taken seriously. I may not be medically trained but I know what works and does not work for my son as I've been with him every step of the way for two years. If I get a response to this it will probably ask me to contact the Trust so they can investigate. I have done already to be told that an investigation was carried out and they asked all staff involved about the care they gave and they found that the correct care was given. Now, this might be just be me, but if somebody came up to me and said they'd received a complaint about the care given that I had provided then my answer wouldn't be that I had given inadequate care. What's the point in going to the staff involved for their opinion on the care they provided? Get somebody that is not bias to make that judgement! I would not recommend this hospital to my worst enemy and will be going to another hospital in future with my son.

We are concerned to note these comments and would be pleased to formally investigate if the family would like to contact us directly.
