Myself and a colleague supported a person with a learning disability to A&E for a minor procedure. The person was very distressed at the thought of the procedure. The nurse and the doctor involved were fantastic. They were patient and friendly. They gave the person plenty of time to come to terms with what was going to happen, spending time talking to him and slowly and gently making him feel more at ease. Taking your time and having patience is vital when helping someone with a learning disability. During the procedure they constantly engaged in conversation with him to try and relax him. They acted professionally and engaged with the person in just the right way for someone with a learning disability. We were very impressed

This is the second time in just a matter of days that someone has commented how well our staff support with patients with learning difficulties. It's easily overlooked, resulting in at best a difficult time for the person involved. At worst, it can result in a traumatic experience. Clearly our staff appreciate this and understand the importance of engaging with those in their care, whatever their circumstances, to help them feel reassured and safe. Which is why we know the team will be delighted to read your feedback, which is winging it's way to them as we speak.
