My 98 year old mother in law had a fall in her care home and her GP sent her for X-rays. She spent 8 hours in A&E. We then drove her back to the care home.
The next day she had another fall and her condition was worse and ambulance was called. She eventually had more X-rays of her hips and chest. We were told she would have her bloods done. However we were then told there was no need as they thought she was attention seeking and they also believed she had thrown herself on the floor. I told the nurse she was in a lot of pain in her chest. I was told there was nothing wrong as all X-rays were ok. We took her back to the care home. Her incontinence pad had not been changed all day in the hospital.
The next day we were called again to the home by the GP to be told she had seen the results of the X-ray and she was in the last stages of lung cancer.
1 week later she had hours to live. This experience has been very distressing as we phoned her other daughter in Australia to tell her she was attention seeking only to have to tell her the next day she had days to live. Words fail me.
My mother in law has now passed away. We are devastated.
