I am an 88 year old Gentleman and have never really troubled the NHS before.
But I returned from a lovely two week sun soaked holiday in Spain with my family to a fairly upset grumbling tummy. I honestly thought I had got food poisoning but over the next three days it just got worse with a pain down my right hand side.
Eventually I decided to go to the Dr - I was immediately sent to hospital - (Queens Medical Centre Nottingham) there and then and diagnosed with a blockage in my bowel. The staff on C31 could not have been kinder and I underwent many tests before they operated.
The operation was over 3 hours long and when I came round I was told they had removed a large tumour. The tumour turned out to be cancer and the care I received from ALL the specialists surgeon - Mr Abercrombie was first class. I was moved to E17 and again found all staff to be knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging.
On getting better I was moved to Lings Bar in West Bridgford - Forest Ward. Again staff charming, upbeat, encouraging and approachable. Had secret crush on the Sister.
I am now home and am still being supported by staff from Lings Bar - and a carer comes in once a day which is excellent.
Well done NHS others may knock you but on ALL aspects of care, confidentiality, respect and knowledge FIRST CLASS.
