"Care of my mother"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

Anything else?

My mother entered hospital on 17 August and remained in Ward 4 until she died on 10 September. My brothers and I between us visited the hospital every day often spending several hours there. The staff were unfailingly polite to us and the sister and her team always treated my mother with respect speaking to her by name whenever they were performing checks on her even during the last two weeks when she was almost totally unresponsive. She was kept clean and tidy and regularly turned to prevent bedsores and most days had a clean nightgown. The only negative was the inability of the doctors to find the root cause of her illness and their decision that she was a DNR without consulting us, indeed they made it clear that it was there decision not ours. We did not disagree with their decision but I expected more discussion before it was made. I have given an overall rating of 4 due to this, in terms of the nursing care it is 5 star.

Please accept our condolences for your loss and we really appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback at such a difficult time. We are really pleased to hear how positive how well the nursing staff cared for your mother, and we can only apologise for the poor communication from the doctors with regard to the DNAR decision that was made. We will ensure all of your feedback is shared with the team on Ward 4.
