Anything else?
I spent nine days at Stepping Hill and even though I live a short distance from this hospital, I would not wish to attend nor would I ever wish a family member to be admitted. I witnessed the cleaners every morning make feeble attempts to clean the floor whilst missing out large areas where dirt and dust was clearly visible. The toilet door handles, light switches, sink/bin tops were never once cleaned even though many elderly and confused patient were using these facilities and not washing their hands after. I watched an argument between a head nurse and an auxiliary, from another dept, over beds whilst the elderly patient who was being transferred had her belongings thrown.. yes thrown further down the ward whilst the patient sat in a chair unable to retrieve her items. She was left to sit in a chair for 25mins( I timed this) before another nurse made up the empty bed was supposed to be in. I myself was ignored for several hours, whilst on morphine, when the cannular in my hand became blocked. It wasn't until my husband came and complained, medicine was still being administered intravaneously whilst my hand and wrist were visibly swollen, was I seen to and the cannular changed along with a belated apology from the head nurse. Still no explanation as to why the nurse administering IV ignored the visible swelling and pain, I told her, I was in. Whilst on morphine... offered bed wash as an alternative to nurse accompanying me to toilet due to staff shortages. Had to wait from Friday until Monday for a doctor to explain medication/treatment I was receiving. Left over weekend to accept whatever medication I was given as nurses could not explain/diverge from 'computer' instructions. Staff forgot to send me for a CT scan even though doctors requested and expected results as treatment would be based on potential outcome. Although ward was supposed to be a 'same sex' ward we were audience to a particular male patient from male ward who, several times a day, would get past nurses and the nurses station, and use female patient toilets whilst he left the door open. This was possible due to the poor layout of the wards whereby women and men were segregated within a open plan system with males occupying one half of a long ward and females occupying the other half with nurses' and nurses station being in the middle which was, in the main, unmanned...especially over weekends.
