"My experience of Eye Hospital, New Cross Hospital"

About: New Cross Hospital

Anything else?

I have just returned from a visit to this hospital following an emergency referral from my local hospital at Stafford (who were great). My God what an awful place this is - dirty, no information available, uncaring staff (including the doctor I saw). It was like going back into the 50's, scrappy bits of hand written paper stuck everywhere, don't do this, don't do that. Beverage machine not working, toilet not flushing, everyone moaning about the cost of parking. If they are trying to get over the importance of being healthy, how come the vending machines are full of chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks? Why are many of their nurses so overweight? There was no information about waiting times, after pushing the receptionist I was told it "could be hours"! Turned out to be 2.5 hours for me but there was an elderly couple who had been there since 11am which means they had been hanging around for 6 hours (all without a cuppa!). Poor old chap in a wheelchair was unceremoniously left by the front door for over an hour to my knowledge waiting for a lift home, he was still there when I escaped. Terrible experience of the NHS from someone who fortunately hasn't had the need to visit a hospital for many years. An experience (I hope) never to be repeated I might add.
