From the warm welcome on arrival at the reception desk to the helpful, cheerful and informative discharge procedure there was absolutely nothing about this short two day experience I could find fault with. This was my first ever operation and I was quite apprehensive about it but I was quickly put at ease by the consistently respectful staff in the pre-op room and the understanding and friendly female anesthetist. I was further put at ease by the consultant surgeon, who had been previously examined and treated me. He continued to be respectful, extremely informative and afforded me the opportunity to fully discuss in an relaxed manner my condition (enlarged prostate) and discussed details and timings of the operation about to be carried out. In due course I was taken to the Day Care Theatre by the caring assistant anesthetist who provided further details en route about what was about to happen to me.Being my first ever operation the Theatre seemed to be full of busy people but I was very quickly made comfortable and I quickly relaxed and the procedure commenced. As I came round I was immediatedly reassured and quickly taken to Bay 1 for my relatively short stay in hospital. The staff in this unit were extremely friendly ,caring, informative and clearly very hard working. This was particularly the case by the night shift staff who never stopped working ,treated me and the others in the unit with the utmost respect, humour and kindness. They worked so quietly, almost in total silence ,disturbed only by the wheel noise of the various trolleys, on which the required equipment was carried.I had slept during the afternoon and was awake during the entire night and they constantly ensured I was comfortable and supplied regularly with tea and biscuits. In the morning I was visited by the consultant who encouragingly informed how the operation had went. The day shift staff were so helpful as I had to demonstrate the my urinary functions were performing correctly. I had a second visit by the consultant who reviewed with me my progress, which had proved to be satisfactory, and informed me I could be discharged later in the afternoon. The nurse who I had been allocated to look after me was fantastically patient and encouraging with a great bedside manner and sense of humour. I was impressed by the fully detailed discharge information I was provided with. The food provided was fairly basic although perfectly adequate for my short visit. All in all I was very impressed by all aspects of the surgical procedures, care, respect, information and every aspect of my visit to this hospital.
