An old (80) friend of ours had been diagnosed with Myeloma and had had treatment at 2 hospitals. When I became involved, I used to take her to Leeds but due to the burden of travelling, it became necessary to move hospitals. We identified Airedale as providing the specialist treatment. I was with her for over 2 years when she received treatment in the Haematology department. The treatment of the condition and the patient was second to none. The doctor was exemplary, clinically, personally and in setting the tenor of the team. The nursing team were excellent, all of them, always professionally competent, caring, cheerful and prepared to go way beyond the call of duty. Support staff were excellent all round, particularly one member of staff who was exceptionally patient with us as we muddled our way through a series of own goals with appointments. Through her we always saw the same doctor despite ourselves! The hospital too demonstrated this patient-centric approach, consistently, repeatably and over years. The security guard who always managed to find us parking, the overworked pharmacy who could always accommodate us, the staff late at night, stopping to give us directions and many other examples. A true model of excellence - well done Airedale Hospital.
