"Would never recommend this hospital!"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

I knew from my first few visits I wasn't going to like my experience here the ladies on the desk for antenatal appointments are rude and not very helpful also the unit is not very organised with me on more than one occasion being sent from one desk to the other! Another time I was told my baby was breech and given leaflets about turning him but nothing else was explained they just want you in and out on our return we were told our son was too small to try this procedure anyway so I would have to have a c section! This is what I'm really angry about I was told to sign the consent forms and again given more leaflets and sent on my way I've since found out I should of at least had the choice to try a breech birth especially as it was my 4th baby and was on the small side. We had to be chased down the corridor by a midwife to have important mrsa swobs taken which they forgot about! Another time during my 20 wk scan I'd heard every excuse going as to why she could tick off all my baby parts and after she tried using nearly a whole bottle of gel she then tried not using any and then I was told to empty my bladder and to jump up and down! Now aren't scans normally better with a full bladder? We had to return 3 wks later to finish the scan which took only a few minutes by a different sonographer. Another time we had to have a scan again to check my babies kidneys as they looked a little enlarged again we had the same lady we'd had problems with before as well as another sonographer have to say it's not very reassuring hearing them discuss if it's the right part of the baby there looking at! Yep they had to discuss if they where indeed looking at my babies kidneys! What a joke! Now here's the fun bit going in on the morning of my planned section all was good we were kept informed and the staff were too bad but I'm very scared of needles so wasn't looking forward to a spinal during having my cannula fitted he collapsed my vein causing my hand to go black (I have pictures to prove it) then he tried to Blair me saying I should have been knocked out for my section even though I explained it wasn't the op I was afraid of...only the needles...then the same person did my spinal hitting a nerve sending my leg into spasm at this point I was in tears asking if he was fully qualified and not still in training which although the midwife asked we wasn't given a clear answer so as my notes stated no students I'm unsure if In fact he was still in training especially as he was being watched over by another dr who quickly took over doing the spinal. When I cam out of theatre the midwife looking after me was lovely as so reassuring I felt safe and well but on return to the ward I found the daytime staff to be unhelpful and I felt as though I was in the was of them standing at the desk having a chat I had to buzz every 4 hours for my pain killers then told they wanted me to get out off bed but I hadn't yet got the feeling back in my feet!
