"Central delivery suite issues and anaesthetist..."

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

Anything else?

I gave birth here in July 2013 and my experience was very distressing which has left my partner and I very upset, angry and overwhelmingly emotional when reflecting on what should have been a positive and magical moment in our lives! The midwives taking care of me did not listen to me in regards to high levels of anxiety from a previously traumatic birth four years ago. We had lengthy conversation about what worried me and then when it came to it I was treated like I should know what to expect and do as a second time mother! Not the case, I was more anxious and worried with this baby! I have several more issues with the lack of sensitivity and listening skills from the midwives concerned and had they listened, I strongly believe my baby's heart rate would not have decelerated so much and I wouldn't have been rushed to theatre. Several problems with the anaesthetist comes in, the anaesthetist tried several times to put the epidural in, my back was black and blue in the week following and I suffered severe headaches, back and neck pain. Had to go back to triage three days later and consultant informed me that my spinal fluid sac had been pierced. When I was in theatre having the spinal anaesthetic put in for C-section, I was forced into a position physically by the staff, which caused so much more pain I felt like my baby's head was being squashed! Never have I felt so man-handled in my life. The final straw for this horrendous experience was that my partner was put into surgical scrubs to witness the C-section. arrived in theatre to be told by a midwife that he couldn't stay as there wasn't room, they would try delivering baby by forcepts and to wait in CDS!! How is there not room for the father? I was unaware of this and assumed he was in the room. When our baby was born and given to me I asked where he was to be told he was back on CDS waiting. I had to ask someone to get him to come see his daughter. So he had been forced to miss his daughters birth. There are many issues with my care whilst here and its a shame because my first birth there was excellent service. We now feel that we should not have any more children so that we do not go through another traumatic birth again and feel this way. It's left a negative spell on our lives. Not happy at all.

I am very sorry that you found your recent experience in maternity so distressing. It is upsetting when what should be a special time does not go as hoped. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you further if you felt able to call me directly. I would like to know what we could have done differently to make the experience less traumatic for you and your partner. I may also be able to find out more about the reasons behind some of the decisions taken in your care. I can be contacted on 01276 604210. Adrienne Price Head of Midwifery
