"No Respect"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

My grandmother was admitted to BRI after a fall. She was, at the time suffering from Metastatic Lung Cancer. Although the vast majority of the staff were fine I was distraught at the fact that a junior doctor put in place a DNR order withiut consultation or at least explanation (I am aware that a qualified Dr can do this but o consultation and discussion would have been courteous). That my grandmother was consistently referred to by the wrong name, that her notes had the wrong name on them and that a cleaner demanded I leave the cubicle whilst I was holding her dead body so they could 'clean up'. The most horrible experience of my life. This all occured on the Elderly Care Unit or whatever its called officially. I am aware that the vast majority of staff are professional and diligent but this was really shocking.

We are so sorry both for the loss of your grandmother and also for the care you and she received. We strive to provide quality care with compassion at all times however, we appear to have failed to do so in your grandmothers case. Your comments have been sent to the Matron and Clinical lead of the area and will be shared with staff. If there is anything we can do to help you please contact the Patient Advisory Liaison Service on 01274-364021 who will be able to assist you further.
