"A friendly and effective day surgery experience"

About: The Midlands NHS Treatment Centre

Anything else?

I was really pleased to receive an appointment for day surgery at the treatment centre... It seems a more effective use of resources than taking up space in one of the wards. Was surprised not to need to take anything but indeed a light dressing gown and socklets were provided as well as the usual gown. Patients leave clothing and possessions in a personal locker. Water, hot drinks, biscuits and sandwiches are also provided ...after surgery of course. The system is well thought through, with the various staff coming to each mini cubicle to go through pre op checks. Each of the patients for surgery under GA is assigned to a different cubicle. Perhaps an observation that i noticed one of the cubicles seemed the most convenient for staff to use, so several patients were taken from the lounge into the same cubicle (mine as it happens) for their checks to be done ...I wondered if there was any potential for cross contamination from this. Staff were very friendly and exceptionally nice. Particular thanks to the HCA who looked after me for most of my stay. Discharge meds and paperwork were promptly provided so all in all, it worked well. The treatment centre delivered a very good service overall.
