"Ward 21 - fantastic nursing and care"

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

My mother, who is 89 and very frail was admitted to the BRI as an emergency, late at night on the 10th September, with a heart attack. I will review her experience of the whole process in the other departments reviews (all positive) but she ended her stay on Ward 21 where she had the most fantastic caring and sensitive nursing and physio support. The ward was immaculately clean (not easy on a ward with elderly patients who tend to spill things due to lack of dexterity). Her drinking and eating were closely but sensitively monitored and the ward was warm and cosy. Most importantly, the staff spent time with the patients and with family visitors and were very visible to all, getting to know their patients and interacting with them. A special thanks to the Sister on the ward who expedited my mother's discharge for my mother's benefit and even managed to get her dossett box to her on time - fabulous leadership skills. The elderly are not an easy or glamourous group to nurse and it takes special skills and attitudes to give them the care they deserve as they approach the end of their lives - Ward 21 has that in spades. Or to put it simply as my mother told me "the nurses on this ward are really lovely" Thank you Ward 21 x

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Ward 21. We will pass this on to the ward staff.
